The sun shone on our sports day this year. We had straight races and novelty races. Everyone was treated to ice-cream afterwards for their participation.
OUTDOOR CHALLENGES – ALL CLASSES – PDST
Catherine from the PDST called to our school on 29th May 2016 to work with the children on games and orienteering activities. We had a beautiful day and the children really enjoyed the activities. They were physically and mentally active.
PLAY ON THE SCHOOL YARD – MAY/JUNE 2016
The active school committee met recently to create a timetable for equipment on the yard. The children get the opportunity to play with frisbees, rugby balls, skipping ropes etc. Here are some photos of the children enjoying themselves using that equipment.
SENIOR CLASSES ARE PRESENTED WITH HURLING CERTIFICATES – MAY 2016
To recognise the achievement in participating in indoor hurling the children were presented with certificates.
AN POST RÁS – SUPPORTING THE RACE – 24TH MAY 2016
We were very excited recently when we got the opportunity to support the An Post Rás that passed through the village of Dromina recently. The children were in awe at the speed that the cyclist passed through and the various types of vehicles that passed.

The middle classes got the opportunity to take part in a Blitz in Banteer recently. They really enjoyed the experience.
ACTIVE SCHOOL WEEK 4TH MAY TO 11TH MAY 2016
We had an amazing Active School Week in May. We got the opportunity to experience lots of different physical activities during the week. Please see below a summary of the events each day. We would like to thank all the local volunteers, clubs and parents who helped make this week a success for the pupils and gave them an opportunity to reinforce our Active School Motto

DAY 1: 4TH MAY 2016
Wake up Shake Up Activity- Circuits
The week got off to an active start with the children rotating between 10 stations. The activities were decided by the Active School Committee.

Wake up Shake up – Co-operative Games
We played Pass the Ball, Frogs and Lily Pads and The Great Big Jump. The teams were mixed with children from all classes.
Orienteering activities with Junior & Senior infants involving numeracy
Frisbee Activities with 3rd to 6th Class
3rd to 6th Class got the opportunity to hone their skills using Frisbees. This training was given by Frisbee Ireland. It was very well received by the pupils.
Smoothies and “I have been active today” bracelets handed out by the Active School Committee to each class.
Finally a huge thank you to the parent’s Association who so kindly treated all the children in the school with various smoothies and they also kindly gave us the recipes to be handed out to the children. All children received a bracelet to acknowledge their physical activity for the week.
Active School Launch Day
We launched our campaign for our Active School Flag on the 15th February 2016. We had an eventful day. In the morning the whole school participated in “Wake Up, Shake Up”. We celebrated at break time with fruit shots in the colours of the Active School Flag. At break we completed 1 minute exercise activities. All classes experienced a coaching session with basketball coach David Beckham. It was a day that lived up to our Active School Motto.
